Born inside a fire
A shell-shocked nation torn
With a right to nothing but a beating heart
That beats to the rhythm of war
Death my mentor
Learned to mourn
Raised to expect nothing more
Slowly twisted by the hunger
Trying to bend me to conform

Preachers preach and rule the streets
But I’ve never known who controls
The streams of black gold beneath
The endless maze of shattered homes

Portraits of the devil burn
Statues of the tyrant fall
Blazing wells darken the skies
Sacrificial rituals

Inside the sandstorm
The ones you didn’t see

Everyday the front lines
Shift across the sand
Everything's so different now
But nothing changed somehow
Dreamers dreamt with open eyes
The nightmares came to life
A faceless mass of the betrayed
Reach their backs and twist the knife

Fear and hatred rule the streets
But Ive never known who commands
The holy war for that black tar
That flows underneath the land
